Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio was fined €14,400 after exceeding the legal limit on a breathalyser test. The player accepted the charges and had his driving license revoked for 8 months.
Raul Asencio's situation remains complicated, as he had a 2025/26 season in which he went from better to worse. This was because he went from a strong first half of the season, regularly starting for the team and delivering strong performances, to a considerable drop in form, along with physical problems and illnesses that did not leave him alone during the second half of the football year.
Now, after a situation that occurred on Aug. 16, when the defender was detained at a breathalyser checkpoint on the GC-1 highway, at kilometre 37.5, in the town of San Bartolome de Tirajana, the player tested positive on the first breath test (0.90 mg/l) and also on the second test (0.88 mg/l). This constitutes a criminal offence, and he was summoned for a fast-track trial.
The player attended the trial and admitted the facts, for which he was fined €14,400, and his driver's license was suspended for 8 months. Real Madrid is aware of the situation and has said that Asencio has reflected on his actions, has promised to focus 100% on the club, and wants to give his best to bring out his best version for this season, which has already begun.
For the above reasons, it is very unlikely that the club will punish the player in any way. Others have suggested that Asencio could leave the club, but that is extremely exaggerated given the magnitude of the offence. However, the player must step up if he wants to stay on the team, because at a club like Real Madrid, any player who does not contribute is moved on.
After suffering a muscle injury to the rectus femoris during the preseason, he has not been able to see a single minute in the three matches that have been played so far. In addition, with Dean Huijsen focused and regaining great form, Ibrahima Konate, who has responded well since arriving from Liverpool, Antonio Rudiger, who performed well against Malaga, and Eder Militao, a few weeks away from returning to action, Asencio must urgently find a place.
With the number of sales the club had during this summer with players exclusively from 'La Fabrica', totaling nearly €200 million in earnings, the last thing Asencio wants likely is to add his name to the list, because the honor with which he wears the white shirt is notable, but he must fight for a place, at least for the bench, since the defensive line is beginning to become overpopulated with players and possibly someone will have to be sacrificed.
